If you get to act for Stephen Spielberg you can take it that you're the best and that is just what Christian Bale did in "Empire of the Sun". In fact you can quite honestly say that the movie depended on Christian's performance, he was on screen for about 90% of the movie. His performance was absolutely stunning and there were a lot of questions asked as to why he didn't get an Oscar for it. But then they don't give Oscars to boy actors do they ( as Haley Joel Osment found out!)? I saw Christian a few years later in Kenneth Branagh's "Henry V" and again he was outstanding - and what a face!
