FRASER (FIZ) MACINTOSH

I was seriously grateful to an American friend who sent me this copy of "The Boy Cried Murder". I must admit that I had never heard of this movie or of Fraser MacIntosh. In fact neither Mark Lester or I knew him and yet we think that we should as he is around about our time as child actors. "The Boy Cried Murder" was released in 1966 and in many ways is typical of the style of movies of that time. The staging and lighting are quite superb, making the most of the exotic Adriatic locations which I actually knew well around this time. Fiz gives a superb performance as a little boy who constantly cries "wolf" only to find that no one believes him when he truly does witness a murder that puts his own life in jeopardy. The final chase and the genuine sense of terror that Fiz brings to it are exceptional, this was one very much above the average child actor. I believe that Fiz made one other movie (for the same director) entitled "Vojnik" or "The Soldier" but to my knowledge no one has been able to track down a copy of it. As always if anyone knows anything about Fiz, please do let us know.

My colleague writes "Fraser MacIntosh - generally known as Fiz - was a dynamic child actor rivaling the performances of other great child actors like Bobby Driscoll, Mark Lester, Ricky Schroder, and Haley Joel Osment. His riveting portrayal of Jonno Durrant in The Boy Cried Murder (1966) was nothing short of a legendary performance! Fraser - born in Adelaide, Australia on November 17, 1953 - was the son of the broadcaster and TV newsreader Alex MacIntosh. (Alex MacIntosh was credited in the role of the Police Sergeant in The Boy Cried Murder (1966). He does bear a strong resemblance to Fraser; however, I cannot confirmed him to be his father.)"

We entirely agree with him.

We received the following tragic news

"I was recently contacted by Fraser's sister with the tragic news that Fraser died in 1988 from a brain tumor. He was 34 and is survived by his wife (Julia) and two children, Lucy and Foster. Also a note. The correct spelling of his name is Macintosh (with the "I" not capitalized). It was believed that Fraser went by the nickname "Fiz"; however, nobody but his Dad called him Fiz, and that only occasionally. Fraser didn't like it. He was furious that it got put on the credits in The Boy Cried Murder (1966)!"
