JOHNNY MARLEY

Johnny Marley appeared in a charming Irish film called "The Schooner". It was one of those gentle whimsical films that the Irish film-makers are so brilliant at making. Johnny played Terry, a young boy who has gone to stay with rather stern elderly relatives. I guess this was probably Johnny's first movie but his performance was quite brilliant, showing just the right mixture of apprehension and adventure. Johnny was as good as any child actor that I have seen and I wonder just why he, like so many others, did not go on to be a major star. If he had been in Hollywood surely Johnny Marley would have been seen in movie after movie. I particularly liked the scenes where he was playing by the sea with the model schooner as you really feared for his safety. If anyone knows anything more about Johnny or the film-makers of "The Schooner" please let me know.
