CHRIS CLEARY MILES

Chris starred opposite William Hurt in Chris Menges' superb 1994 film "Second Best". I have a tenuous connection with the film in that the cinematographer, the brilliant Ashley Rowe, did the camerawork on four of my movies. This must have been a particularly difficult role for Chris to play. His character, James, was a very disturbed child given to disruptive behaviour and running around woods very much in the "Lord of the Flies" style. Balancing this were the sensitive scenes that Chris had to play with William Hurt's withdrawn character, the postmaster Graham Holt. I think what was particularly impressive about Chris' quite outstanding performance was his portrayal of James' mood swings, this was acting of the very highest level. It's about time someone out there gave Chris another major role.

Thanks to our friend who gave us a copy of Chris's brilliant short "The Barber", we believe Chris made this about the same time as "Second Best" and he is bloody good in it. So just what is CCM up to these days?
